There are several tasks that photographers can outsource— starting now! Outsourcing can free up your time as a photographer so you can focus on doing the work that you actually enjoy…like taking quality photos. When outsourcing, photographers want to make sure that the professional they hire can complete their tasks on time and provide a quality service. When looking to outsource tasks, a great place to start is asking for referrals from other professionals in your industry to find a reputable company. Below we’ll highlight the top five tasks that our photographer clients frequently outsource to us and how it can be helpful:
- Photo editing – While we don’t edit photos (you wouldn’t want that!), we do have a number of photography clients who have found a system that works when it comes to outsourcing their editing. Outsourcing photo editing can be helpful if you are behind in your editing queue or have something like a wedding with thousands of photos that you don’t want to take the time to do the basic adjustments. Before hiring someone else to bulk edit for you, consider doing a trial run with a smaller project, such as family photos or an engagement shoot to get a feel for their work.
- Administrative tasks – Many administrative tasks can be delegated effectively. For example, if a destination wedding photographer has many weddings to travel to but doesn’t want to take the time to locate hotel accommodations, they can hire someone to handle this for them. Also, with today’s digital calendars appointments can be scheduled on a photographer’s calendar by a virtual assistant allowing that time to be but to better use. We typically handle inboxes/emails, inquiries, contracts, client touch points, scheduling/calendars, vendor research, & more— just ask!
- Social media – This is one of the easiest tasks to outsource because it’s digital. Once a photographer communicates what their goals are with their business then their social media pages can be given fresh content often to find new clients. And because we know photographers need to have control over their feed (we get it), we can find a plan that works best for you whether that’s approved folders of content, pre-selected cover images, or frequent feedback. Don’t let your online presence fall to the back burner— it matters more than you may think!
- Website setup/maintenance – This is another easy task to outsource due to its digital availability. A programmer can setup a website for you, while a virtual assistant (like us) can maintain blogs, add relevant content as needed, and handle longterm maintenance.
- Client communication – Following up with clients in a professional and timely manner goes a long way in forming and maintaining working relationships. If a virtual assistant can maintain follow up conversations that will help to grow a photographer’s reputation and find more word of mouth clients.
When considering outsourcing, communication with your virtual assistant is the most important aspect of the relationship. In order to achieve the results you’re hoping for— communication needs to happen before, during, and after projects to remain on the same page. It will making achieving your business goals easier when you have a team that supports you.
